A Charmcaster from Mbare
Musaza Lot 3 is the next coffee to open a doorway into Roastersaurus World: a natural Red Bourbon from Rwamatamu Coffee in Mbare, Rwanda, and the first Longneck to step into the Charmcaster class.
This is a coffee built on pull rather than force. Blackcurrant, Parma Violet, crème de cassis and milk chocolate truffle move through the cup with a super sweet, smoooooth finish and polished Kir Royale sparkle. It does not roar abruptly. It draws you in.
Rwamatamu, Mbare, Rwanda
Rwamatamu is a family-owned Rwandan producer founded in 2015 by Rutaganda Gaston and Mukantwaza Laetitia. Their work brings together quality, farmer relationships and long-term community development, with investment in training, processing improvement and cup evaluation.
Musaza Lot 3 comes from Rwamatamu’s Mbare washing station, a newer part of their work that they expanded into in 2023. Grown at around 1,800 masl, this natural Red Bourbon carries both the altitude and the slow raised-bed drying into the cup: concentrated fruit, creamy sweetness and a long, polished finish.
The Process
This natural Red Bourbon was processed at Mbare washing station. The cherries were hand sorted, spread across raised beds, turned carefully and dried for 26 to 33 days before milling in Kigali.
That slow natural process gives the coffee its concentrated dark-fruit sweetness, creamy body and long, velvety finish.
Cup Character
Blackcurrant leads in both aroma and flavour, carrying the dark-fruit intensity of crème de cassis and the bright lift of blackcurrant shrub. Parma Violet brings a floral candy edge, while Kir Royale sparkle gives the cup polished energy without making it sharp.
Underneath it all is a juicy, creamy body with the richness of milk chocolate truffle. Sweet, smooth, dense and lingering, Musaza Lot 3 feels like velvet with a pulse.
