Basha Bekele is the first coffee to reveal the Quickfang class of Roastersaurus, the raptors of speed and clarity. Quickfangs are sharp, agile, and exacting, embodying coffees that move with focus and definition. Produced in the Bensa District of Sidamo, Ethiopia, this lot from Basha’s Gonjobe site reflects the same precision that defines the class. Naturally processed yet refined and structured, it shines with crystalline brightness, layered sweetness, and floral depth.

 

About the Producer

Basha Bekele is part of Ethiopia’s new generation of producers, combining deep local knowledge with innovation. His focus on precision, quality, and continuous improvement has earned him global recognition. In 2024, he achieved first place in Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence, one of the most respected competitions in the world. He has since been nominated for Notable Coffee Producer at the 2025 Sprudgie Awards and featured in international publications celebrating his contribution to Ethiopian coffee.

 

Working with Mecota Trading, Basha manages several sites across Sidamo, including Gonjobe at 2,450 meters above sea level. His leadership and success have inspired other farmers to adopt more meticulous post-harvest practices, showing that care and patience can transform both quality and opportunity.

 

About the Coffee

This natural lot is produced at Basha’s Gonjobe site in the Bensa District of Sidamo, at 2,450 meters above sea level. Only ripe red cherries are handpicked and carefully sorted before drying. The coffee is composed of local Ethiopian varieties grown for their clarity and sweetness, harvested between December and February. It expresses the elegance and definition of a washed coffee while keeping the lush depth and fruit sweetness of a natural. Bright yet balanced, it moves with precision and control, capturing the energy and grace of the Quickfang class.

 

The Process

At Gonjobe, cherries are shade-dried on raised beds and turned regularly to ensure even fermentation. The combination of high altitude, controlled airflow, and slow drying allows the coffee to develop refined sweetness and floral aromatics. Basha’s process brings structure and purity to a natural cup, revealing clarity where intensity is usually found.
